Late Sunday night rainy day soundtrack.
Music Video Of The Day
music video of the day: "You & Me" by Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle
Craving for an adventure. This one seems nice.
music video of the day: "Body Pary" by Ciara ft. Future
Freaky Fridays y'all! As if this song is actually called Body Party & homegirl put her IRL loverman Future in it. Get it girl. Get it. Ciara is back and has come a far way since 2004's "1, 2 Step" but she's still got the Goddies. See what I did there? Hilarious, I know.
ps. Check out this remix by DjTray. It's good stuff.
music video of the day: "Work" by Iggy Azalea
I white girl rap this myself when shit gets tough. It's been stuck in my head all day.
music video of the day: "A Dancing Shell" by Wild Nothing
I'm not a human, I'm just a body
just a dancing shell, here to make you happy
I have no feeling, I have no thoughts
I have to make you love me, watch me now, watch me
Ugggghhh I looooooove thiiiiissss! I liked Wild Nothing before but this Talking Heads-y Wild Nothing is just hitting it out of the park. The lyrics (above) remind me of two awesome things which in turn makes me adore this song even more....
- Duncan Trussell, who has a bit/nuget of knowledge about how your body is a spacesuit and the earth is a giant spaceship. It's amazing.
- Marcel The Shell With Shoes On.
Both awesome things. As is this song. Playing on repeat.
music video of the day: "Pennie Lane" by The BB Guns
Because my stunning amigo Ola directed it and everything she touches is magic because she is magic incarnate. Obviously I'm bias but whatever.
She's brill and the music video is a good time.

music video of the (yester)day: "Bag" by White Lung
Saw these Vancouver punks last night at Hard Luck and totally got a mosh pit back injury whilst trying to take photos. Said photos and review on the way. Still in recovery. Here's a Vine to tide you over till then...
music video of the day: "That's Alright" by Laura Mvula
The stunner statuesque godess Laura Mvula played a sold out show at the Drake Underground last night. Showcasing songs off her debut album Sing To The Moon the evening was filled with handclaps and soul induced chills. Encouraging Mvula to encore after her short set, the audience sang her a belated Happy Birthday and Mvula showed her gratitude by closing things up with a singalong cover of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" (see Vine below). Lovely evening? Hell yeah. There's no doubt, Laura Mvula is a star.
Make sure to also check out her music video for "Green Garden" and my recap of her SXSW set.
music video of the day: "Back 2 The Wild" by Basement Jaxx
So these two Korean girls were in New York and then they're like oh hey let's move to London for a bit but they needed a place to stay. After asking around a little they end up crashing with Basement Jaxx in their spare room. And then obviously they made a track together. This is the music video for said track. It's insane. Hair suits flower faces and more.
music video of the day: "How Many Drinks?" by Miguel ft. Kendrick Lamar
Freaky Fridays. Am I right? This video is simple smoothness. An on point performance video featuring slick moves and couple of patterned shirts. Have Prince and Miguel collaborated together yet? They need to. Then again if they did, the raw sex vibes between the two of them would probably make the world melt or something. Kendrick brings his own to this track though, so that'll do for now. No booze needed to enjoy this video. That being said, if you're offering I'll take some whiskey.
Check out my photos and review from Miguel's show at the Kool Haus this past February.
music video of the day: "Feeling Special" by Mykki Blanco

Get More: www.districtmtv.com
Noir, minimal and dark darling. Mykki changes up the game once again.
The Kingpin will be slaying Wrongbar Wednesday April 24th. I'll so be there bowing down.
music video of the day: "Inner Mini-Mississippi" by Snowblink
Dizzying myself into a dream state.
music video of the day: "NaNa" by Chance The Rapper
So JASH gave Chance The Rapper and comedian Hannibal Buress $5,000 and here's some of the things that they did with it...
- Eat pizza
- Wear chains
- Impress some fashion ladiez
- Wear a chicken costume
- Dollarstore shopping spree
- Buy Childish Gambino/Donald Glover a beer
- Pimp suits
Chance The Rapper is this rad lil Chicago kid who made his mixtape #10Day after getting suspended from high school for 10 days. His follow up #AcidRap is due out the end of this month. Was luckly enough to catch him this past SXSW. Kid has skill. Dude is only gonna grow (up).
music video of the day: "Lost" by Frank Ocean
It's an Instagram-esque travel doc of a music video. Pretty stuff.
Did you know Frank Ocean's real name is Christopher Breaux? Totally.
music video of the day: "Open" By Rhye (NSFW)
Both this song and video give me all kinds of chills. Those opening strings. Those little details. They kill me.
Sad to be missing their Toronto show tonight at the Great Hall. If you go, promise to tell me all about it?
music video of the day: "Overgrown" by James Blake
Well this is pretty. Not sure how I feel about the dancing grim reapers but that looks like a pretty chill hill.
ps. Check out Vlsonn's remix of Blake's "Retrograde" below
music video of the day: "Imagine It Was Us" by Jessie Ware
Saw this babe face at the Opera House Saturday night and god damn it if she wasn't just an adorable lil Brit diva. The video for this Julio Bashmore produced track shows off her disco queen status nicely, as she glitters amongst a dancing crowd of circus club kids. If you're having a drab Monday this is sure to add a little shine to it.
Live Music: Lianne La Havas at Opera House
Thursday night we made our way East to the Opera House to catch the darling Lianne La Havas. She had stopped by Toronto in the past opening for Bon Iver at Massey Hall, but Thursday’s show was her first headlining gig in our city.
Taking the stage in a sleek formfitting turtleneck dress adorned with a Mickey Mouse chain around her neck, La Havas looked as stunning as her voice sounds.
For those who’ve yet to hear her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough?, it’s a beauty of a soul record filled with soft lyrics of heartbreak mixed with belts of passion. The show itself had a similar mix from the crowd singing along at the top of their lugs to “Forget” to Lianne tearing up during “Empty”. There was even a cover of Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi” and a fan written poem read aloud.
Throughout the set La Havas was nothing but genuine and thankful. Her album poses the question “Is Your Love Big Enough?” and Thursday night’s answer was nothing but a warm “Yes”.

music video of the day: "Manhattan" by Cat Power
Sigh. Makes my heart ache. Makes me miss New York.
music video of the day: "Conan, Conan" by The Elwins
Because they play the Horseshoe tonight to celebrate the release of their 7".
Also because Conan O'Brien love songs were never so sweet.
